The Federal Emergency Management Agency FEMA has announced a region three spring weather exercise titled “Atlantic Fury”, for May 7-10, 2018.
FEMA Region 3 includes PA, DE, MD, WV and VA.
The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency PEMA has announced it will
participate in Atlantic Fury and has requested that PEMA ACS be involved for the day of May 8,2018.
In response PEMA ACS has committed to several activity’s on that day.
1.) From 10am till 4pm there will be a Commonwealth wide net operated on HF.
The net will begin on 3.9935 khz LSB and may move as conditions warrant.
Additionally there will be some attempts to transfer files digitally on
NBEMS frequency 3.5835 khz USB.
For stations in central PA PEMA ACS will maintain a watch on the 147.075 repeater (plus, 123.0)
2.) From 6pm till 9pm PEMA ACS is requesting each section, Eastern, Central and Western, operate a net on their HF frequencies and any VHF frequencies as they may want.
Net control for these nets should be coordinated in advance by each section Chief.
At the end of the event, a net roster should be emailed to Travis Best, for inclusion in the after action report and the PEMA log.
3.) There will be a SERVPA notification on the 8th. All stations are urged to register on SERVPA.com in the Ham Radio Operators section and provide their notification preferences.
DHS (Department of Homeland Security) is asking to place a special emphasis on HF contacts between region three state HQ’s, (PEMA) and all county EOC’s.
If your county EOC has HF capability please makes sure the station makes at least one contact with PEMA.
If your county EOC does not have HF equipment we would like to have operators try a contact from a field day type setup on the EOC grounds. Please coordinate this in your local communities.
